Optometry in a New Dimension

THE CHALLENGE

The College of Optometrists, in conjunction with the UK’s leading optical retailers, universities and professional bodies, was seeking to raise awareness of careers in optics. A high-impact intervention was required to increase the quality and number of students applying to study these courses at university.

THE CO-DEVELOPED SOLUTION

The Careers in Optics Working Group, established to lead the initiative, acknowledged a cutting-edge campaign was required to raise the aspirations of students post-16. The link between optical illusions and 3D movies proved the ideal springboard to deliver the high impact workshops. Winner of 2011 Recruiter Awards ‘Innovation in Recruitment’.

The professional production team worked with student actors to inextricably link the concept of optometry careers and exciting futures, while the film’s high production values helped to engage with the target audience.

Scientific theory and career-based activities, mapped to the National curriculum, took place in different ‘zones’. ‘Ambassadors’ from across the profession encouraged debate among students and provided expert knowledge.
